After a few months away, Mark and Taylor return with the first of four conversations walking through the Tattoo Pathway’s core framework: The Journey.
In this opening episode they drop into Framing — the often-overlooked starting point of any tattoo process. Most people inherit a frame for what tattooing is (art, rebellion, self-expression, a transaction) without ever examining it. Here they unpack why that inherited frame matters, how it shapes every decision that follows, and why self-responsibility sits at the centre of a frame that can actually carry you.
They explore the difference between a tattoo culture and a culture of tattooing, the physical and metaphysical layers of the work, the canoe as a living metaphor, and why every return to the chair requires a fresh look at the frame you’re still using.
This is the foundation. Everything that follows in Orienting, Embarking and Returning rests on it.
Listen sequentially if you can — the four episodes form one continuous arc.
