In Part 3 we arrive at Embarking — the actual act of getting tattooed.
You’ve checked the frame. You’ve oriented. Now you’re pushing off into the water.
Mark and Taylor explore what it means to enter the unknown, the initiatory nature of breaking the skin, and how the experience of pain can become an elevator into deeper psychological and emotional material. They talk about the spectrum of sessions (the easy days and the fire days), the role of the tattoo guide in stewarding thresholds, and how the relationship to tattooing matures over time — from learning how to simply be in the boat, to using the boat as a genuine navigational tool for life.
This is the active threshold. The moment of commitment. The ordeal and the beauty.
Best listened to after Framing and Orienting.
